variation

Message par aljaxon »

my AV10 motor with std variator clutch (but with clutch starter arms removed) and std pulley and std spring work fine with my 82cc motor no goat. mallossi belt. clutch bite around 5000 rpm

but when i fit an er3 and doppler clutch pulley er86 (modifield) and original spring i get the goat. so its the er3 variator that needs different spring specification.

i have made my own spring . i have 4 belts all different lengths. with shortest belt that compresses spring. i get zero goat. but no variation even with heaviest weights x 6. but with longer belts i get goat unless i remove all weights. and then the belt slips.

is it a case of persevering trying to find the correct spring tension and weights on the er3?

can you run the er3 without weights and get zero goat?

any help much appreciated

apologies if google translate turns this into rubbish

i only have 32mm of engine movement with the spring. is that enough for the er3?

do you know the stiffness of your spring?
for exemple , i’m using a spring with a stiffness around 2N/mm

the ER3 variator have a smaller diameter than stock variator. (25mm vs at least 30mm)
it’s mean while accelerating you have more tension on the belt.
the original spring can’t oppose enough.

can you run the er3 without weights and get zero goat?
impossible: your 82cc engine have more torque than a stock engine, so to transmit the torque of your engine you need a stronger spring, and with a stronger spring you will have heavyest weights.

for exemple, i have 45mm of engine mouvement (210mm pulley and 106mm variotop)
32mm… i think you need a little bit more

thanks for reply

i can add preload because i made it adjustable. i am going to try every belt and see what weights they need on max preload.

with all weights and shortest belt it does not variate so i might be able to get it to work.

strange how the original variator works fine with the std spring and pulley no goat.

i think my belt is the wrong angle. it is slipping on the er3. a malossi belt works fine on the original equipment. i havent a malossi belt at the length i need for the modified er86. which is still no good with any power. unless you want 9000 rpm bite.

signs of slipping on the cheeks.
traces de glissement sur les joues.

the goat is stupid it made the bike do a small wheelie at 25mph!!!.

You need a soft and long spring like this
Image
2 doppler spring in line
It allow to have a good preload and keep enough travavel

The mbk51 er3 work welle with peugeot 103 sp belt (but is longer)

you will never have the same angle between belt and cheeks and it’s not a problem.
the belt slipping because your diy spring probably don’t have enough tension.
like fred16 says, it’s better to use long spring.

my spring is 240mm long without load, pre-loaded at 180mm on the moped

My springs
https://www.la-becanerie.com/ressort-mo ... bk-51.html

It's better to have 2 spring because it allow to place a bushing beetween the springs to keep them allign

On 115 variotop with one long spring and with the preload I had not enough travel to open the var competly.

i see. good idea. do you get the goat? or is that whjat the launch lever is for to stop it.

With a good spring, you don't need launch lever.
he can only help to keep the engine at ideal rpm, it's not a good idea to control the goat with it. in fact you can't do it... the goat will always be stronger than your foot!!!

on my race moped, i not often use launch lever. only when the variator is not perfectly tuned.

thanks for that. i have ordered some gas struts 200N to play with because they were cheap, but will try a stronger and longer spring.
